Current Studies

The Final Global Overview Trade SIA of DDA will provide an overall assessment of the potential impact on sustainability of the DDA negotiations as a single undertaking, allowing for the cross-sectoral and cumulative impacts likely to result from the implementation of the DDA as a whole. The assessment will build on the preliminary overview Trade SIA and sectoral studies that were previously undertaken, and will identify the generic issues and lessons that can be drawn from these earlier studies.

The Trade SIA of Fisheries study will be undertaken by the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) at University of Greenwich. The study aims to achieve a clear overview of the current trade situation, a definition of the options/scenarios to be considered and a clear analysis of the mechanisms through which the different options will affect social, economic and environmental areas, in the fisheries sector. The study will propose preventive as well as flanking measures or other adjustments that should prove effective in tackling any adverse impacts of liberalisation, and/or in promoting positive impacts, in the fisheries sector.

Inception Reports for each study were submitted to the European Commission on 27 January 2006. Mid-Term Reports, submitted April 2006, are now available.

Final Reports were submitted as 'Consultation Drafts' on 12th May 2006, followed by a public meeting to discuss the draft reports held in Brussels on 16th June 2006. The Overall Project Report was presented by IDPM; and the Fisheries Study report by NRI. For further information on the meeting visit:
