Introduction
The European Commission's Trade SIA Mercosur framework contract is to provide the basis for carrying out a Trade SIA of the Association Agreement under negotiation between the European Community and Mercosur.
An international consortium led by IARC has been appointed, under the framework contract, to assess how the trade aspects of the Association Agreement could affect sustainable development in Mercosur and the EU. The aims of this first phase are to update the Overall Preliminary Trade SIA EU-Mercosur and to conduct three Trade SIAs for agriculture, automobiles and forestry.
Members of the consortium, led by IARC, include Chaire Mercosur, Copenhagen Economics, ECOSTRAT Consultants Brazil , GRET (Groupe de Recherche et d'Echanges Technologiques), Land Use Consultants, Natural Resources Institute ( University of Greenwich ), WISE Development (Women in Sustainable Enterprise Development).
