Beef has been selected for specific study on the basis of other impacts as well as animal welfare.  Animal welfare will also be considered for other products, e.g. battery farms.

Detailed comments and response below received on the draft Forest MTR:-

There is no internationally accepted definition for the term “High Conservation Value Forest (HCVF)”

The reference to high conservation value forests has been deleted.

The report refers only to the FSC scheme and does not mention PEFC.

The report has been edited so that it avoids referring to any individual certification scheme.

Provided statistics refer only to FSC certification and areas certified under PEFC are not mentioned.

The certification statistics in the report will be complemented by figures provided by CEPF/PEFC council, while also noting that PEFC is being expanded to cover areas also outside Europe.
