European Commission SIA studies

The aim of the European Commission's SIA work is to assess the impact that the results of future WTO negotiations could have on sustainability worldwide. In addition to the current Phase Three study being undertaken by IDPM, the Commission has awarded the following contracts for further studies. These are detailed below, along with links to the appropriate websites.

Sustainability Impact Assessment of the new Economic Partnership Agreements between the ACP & the GCC States and the EU (European Union). For SIA ACP-EU, the final reports of Phase 1 are now available. GCC-EU; the methodology that is implemented for the Sustainable Impact Assessment of the trade negotiations between the EU and the GCC countries, has been publicised on the website.

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)'s final report for the 'SIA of WTO Negotiations on Major Food Crops' is now available on this site, and provides the completed SIA results for the scenarios selected by the Commission for this study. The website also contains information on sustainable development and environment and a bibliography of SEI publications on sustainable development.

The European Commission DG Trade web site on SIA contains an introduction to the work that is being carried out by IDPM, Price Waterhouse Coopers Consortium and SEI; including full reports to date and a record of the public meetings.
